Dewayne White, a defensive end for the Lions through the very lean years of 2007-09, hasn't quite stepped away from the football field after retiring. White, who was cut by Detroit prior to the 2010 season, is spending part of his time now on the Northville (Mich.) High football coaching staff as an inside linebackers coach.

Dan Strawser of Patch.com reported that White and his family moved to Northville, about a half-hour west of Detroit, after joining the Lions. He's set up shop there as a real-estate agent and decided this year to look into helping out with the Mustangs program.

“This was the time for me to move on and really help some kids develop as men, help them grow as young men and help them with their football careers," White told Patch.com.

White spent seven seasons in the NFL, his final three with Detroit. Over that time in the Motor City, White recorded 13 sacks and three interceptions. Injuries cut his 2009 season, and ultimately his career, short.

“You’ve got to know when your time’s up and be able to move on,” White said. “I love it. I wish I could’ve played another year, but everything happens for a reason, I believe.
