Lions president Rod Wood sees complexities in shortening NFL overtime

DETROIT — If NFL overtime had been 10 minutes instead of 15 last season, the Detroit Lions would not have reached the playoffs.

Thanks to what would have been an overtime tie with the Oakland Raiders rather than a 30-24 loss, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at 9-6-1 would have edged the 9-7 Lions for the final playoff spot in the NFC. They’d have been the ones traveling to Seattle for a wildcard game as the Lions stayed home with a different feeling about what the 2016 season ultimately was.
